Apostles Anglican Church provides two worship services on Sunday mornings: the Traditional service at 9:15 am includes time-honored hymns and liturgy, while the Celtic Acoustic service at 11:00 am features more contemporary songs, instrumentation, and worship style. Both services offer worship opportunities through music and singing (congregational, choir, and worship team), reading Scripture, taking part as an acolyte or chalice bearer during the service, and helping prepare for worship through service on the Altar Guild.
Traditional Choir
Presently in formative stages, the new choir leads worship at the 9:15 am Sunday service, singing mostly Anglican hymns and hymn arrangements for the Offertory and during Communion. The choir sings traditionally styled anthems several times during the year, usually at the “Second Sunday” celebrations at Apostles (second Sunday of each month), and also at Easter and Christmas. Choir members are dedicated to singing to God’s glory in a spirit of humility and service. Weekly practice is Thursday evenings at 7:00pm; for more details, contact Susan Ridgell at 384-4585.
Contemporary Worship
The 11:00 am Sunday service includes music leadership from the Apostles Worship Team. The Worship Team guides the congregation in worship through contemporary praise singing, with accompaniment from piano, guitar, percussion, and bass (and others on occasion). The Worship Team is dedicated to leading the congregation in Christ-centered music that is relevant to today’s musical styles, speaking to people in a current musical language. Weekly practice is Saturday mornings at 10:00am; for more details, contact David Clifton at 865.385.6686.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a ministry group whose role is to prepare the sanctuary of the church for worship. Their tasks include setting up the chancel and altar space for communion services, and cleaning the communion vessels after the service. Also included in altar guild duties is the laundering of communion linens and the upkeep of the communion vessels. Seasonally, the church is decorated for Christmas and Easter. The time commitment is usually one or two services per month. To find out more about this ministry opportunity, contact Lane Bahr at 588-1042 (h) or 207-6385 (c).
Lay Reading
Members of the congregation offer their time to bring the Word of God to His people. During each Sunday service, Lay Readers deliver appointed Scripture readings from the Old Testament, the Psalms, and the New Testament Epistles. Readers prepare through training and prayer, and they are supported by fellow Lay Readers who serve on a rotational basis. For more information, contact Ed Judice at 690-9060.
Acolytes and Chalice Bearers
Participating in the beauty of Sunday services, acolytes lead the clergy in and out of the church nave, carrying the cross and torches. They also assist the clergy during the service in setting the altar in preparation for the Eucharist. Acolyte service is open to all: boys or girls, and adults. Chalice Bearers experience the unique privilege of sharing in the miracle of the Eucharist by administering the Blood of Christ to His people. Training and prayer are provided for both Acolytes and Chalice Bearers. For more information, contact Lane Bahr.
