Jack is from Fountain City in North Knoxville. After being away from East Tennessee through college and seminary, he is thankful that God has called him to serve the Kingdom of God in his hometown.

Jack graduated from Samford University (2000), with a B.A. in history; he then graduated from Duke Divinity School (2004),with a Masters of Divinity. Jack also attended Asbury Theological Seminary for one academic year (2001-2002).

Following graduation from Duke Divinity School, he served as senior minister for three Methodist churches in Gateshead, England for one year (August 2004 – August 2005). After returning from England, he served as an associate pastor at Church Street United Methodist Church, where he was given oversight for community and homeless ministries, community and global missions, and ministry to young adults. Since joining the Apostles staff in July 2007, Jack has led Christian formation and discipleship ministries, as his primary passion is to see each believer “presented mature in Christ Jesus.”  After five years of service as Apostles’ assistant vicar, Jack received the call to serve as Apostles’ next Vicar and Senior Minister in July 2012.

Jack met his wife Emily in the fall of 2005, and married in July 2007.  The Kings have one daughter, Madeleine, and are expected their second child in November 2013.  One of Jack and Emily’s favorite pastimes is watching Madeleine dance to her favorite Motown tunes.  Jack’s main interests beyond parish ministry revolve around books: poetry, history, fiction, and biographies.Playing guitar and hammered dulcimer, cooking for his wife and friends, and following the Boston Red Sox are other ways that Jack relaxes and unwinds.
